Event introduction
The Sydney Opera House International Music Festival aims to connect and discover musical talents from all corners of the world through music, building bridges of friendship and cultural exchange that transcend geographical boundaries.
It provides an international platform for communication, skill enhancement, promotion of musical dialogue, and the realization of dreams.
The competition comprises multiple age groups and categories, offering participating musicians the opportunity to showcase their musical talents on the global stage.
They will also receive professional evaluation and guidance from renowned music artists and educators from around the world.
General Rules of the Competition
1.This international competition will be conducted in two stages: preliminaries and finals.
2.Participants are not restricted by nationality or geographical location.
3.Checking scores and rankings is not permitted at any stage of the competition.
4.Participants in all categories may perform with sheet music.
5.Registration for the competition can be done through the designated regional contest area.
If there is no contest area in the participant's region, they may choose to participate in the nearest adjacent regional contest area.
6.The audio-visual promotion rights of participating and winning contestants, as well as the copyright of images and audio-visual products related to performances, concerts, and other activities associated with this competition, belong to the organizing committee of the competition.
No additional compensation will be paid to participants for these rights.
Schedule of the Competition
Preliminaries:
Time of Perliminaries:Starting from August, 2024 - November,2024 (National Preliminary Competitions)
Participation Method: Online/Offline
Registration Process: Competitors must register online via the official registration link and complete the entire application form with accurate information.
Judging Method for Preliminary Entries:Scoring and statistics will be conducted on-site.
Finals:
Time of Finals: February 2-8, 2025 (Tentative)
Participation Method: Finals will be held offline in Sydney, Australia, with judging also taking place there.
Registration Process: Finalists must register online via the official registration link and complete the entire application form with accurate information.
Judging Method for Final Entries: Scoring and statistics will be conducted on-site.

Competition Categories
College/Professional Group
This category is open to undergraduate and graduate students majoring in music education, piano performance, or music education from major music conservatories and comprehensive universities.
Solo Group
Born Before December 31, 2004
Preliminary Round Repertoire: One self-selected piece of any style or genre, with a time limit of 6 minutes.
Duet Category
Born Before December 31, 2004
Preliminary Round Repertoire: One self-selected piece of any style or genre, with a time limit of 6 minutes.
Non-Professional Group
Comprises a total of eleven categories, including eight solo categories and three duet categories.
Young Children Group
Age Limit: Born on or after January 1, 2018 (Aged 6 and below)
Preliminary Round Repertoire: One self-selected piece of any style or genre, with a time limit of 3 minutes.
Children Group A
Age Limit: Born between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2017 (Aged 7-9)
Preliminary Round Repertoire: One self-selected piece of any style or genre, with a time limit of 4 minutes.
Children Group B
Age Limit: Born between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2014 (Aged 10-12)
Preliminary Round Repertoire: One self-selected piece of any style or genre, with a time limit of 5 minutes.
Junior Group A
Age Limit: Born between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2011 (Aged 13-15)
Preliminary Round Repertoire: One self-selected piece of any style or genre, with a time limit of 6 minutes.
Junior Group B
Age Limit: Born between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2008 (Aged 16-18)

Teacher's Group
Age Limit: Born on or before January 1, 2002 (Aged 22 and above)
Participants: Music educators from all regions of the world
Preliminary Round Repertoire: One self-selected piece of any style or genre, with a time limit of 8 minutes.
Duet - Children Group
Age Limit: Born between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2017 (Aged 7-12)
Preliminary Round Repertoire: One self-selected piece of any style or genre, with a time limit of 5 minutes.
Duet - Junior Group
Age Limit: Born between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2011 (Aged 13-18)
Preliminary Round Repertoire: One self-selected piece of any style or genre, with a time limit of 7 minutes.
Duet - Youth Group
Age Limit: Born between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2009
Preliminary Round Repertoire: One self-selected piece of any style or genre, with a time limit of 8 minutes.
Notes on the Competition
※ The age pisions mentioned above are based on the Gregorian calendar. In the Duet categories, if the two participants are of different ages, the older participant's age will be the basis for assigning the group.
※ In case of exceeding the time limit during the performance, the performance will be stopped, but this will not affect the score. All participants are advised to prepare their performances according to the specified time limits for each category and piece requirement.

Qualification Criteria
Participants who win the First Prize or Second Prize in each category within their respective regions will advance to the Final Competition, which will be held in Sydney, Australia.
Along with the Final Competition, these advanced participants will also participate in a range of artistic study activities, including Australian study tours, college visits, and the award ceremony.
If that unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the organizing committee prevent the competition from proceeding as planned, the organizing committee reserves the right to adjust the competition schedule according to the actual situation.
The final interpretation of the competition rules and regulations lies with the organizing committee.
