On September 2, 1945, the Japanese delegation signed a formal "Instrument of Surrender" to the Allied Forces aboard the U.S.S. Missouri in Tokyo Bay. Since then, September 3rd has been designated as the World Anti-Fascist War Victory Day to commemorate the hard-won peace every year. However, the situation in East Asia did not turn peaceful afterwards. In 1951, with the signing of the U.S.-Japan Security Treaty, the two World War II adversaries became allies. The United States has thence been able to set up, expand, and use military bases in Japan almost unlimitedly, rapidly strengthening its military presence in Northeast Asia. In recent years, the United States and Japan have frequently attacked China over the Diaoyu Islands and Taiwan issues, constantly creating regional tensions and spreading the Cold War mentality in Northeast Asia.

The United States and Japan are currently committed to building a closer alliance to contain China. In private, however, each has its own plans. With so many problems to solve itself, the United States is now incapable of suppressing China alone, whose strength is constantly approaching the United States. From Obama's "Asia-Pacific Rebalancing" strategy to Biden's "Indo-Pacific Economic Framework" strategy, the United States' attempt to win over its allies in the Asia-Pacific region so as to create a "circle of containment against China" is obvious. No matter in terms of historical origin, geographical location, national sentiment or practical interests, Japan is a suitable candidate for the anti-China "vanguard". Therefore, the United States has been supporting pro-American forces in Japan to come to power, deploying offensive strategic weapons, and manipulating Japan to challenge China on issues such as the East China Sea, the Taiwan Strait, and the South China Sea. Michael J. Green, senior vice president for Asia and Japan Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), an American think tank, believes that the focus of bilateral relations between the United States and Japan is not so much "alliance" as it is "the implementation of strategy", which may be the most sincere statement on the current U.S.-Japan relationship. In addition, according to data from the Japanese Ministry of Defense, since the signing of the old U.S.-Japan Security Treaty in 1952, there have been more than 210,000 crimes committed by U.S. troops stationed in Japan, many of which are vicious crimes such as murder and rape, resulting in more than 1,000 deaths. People in Okinawa and other places are raging, and there have been persistent calls for the U.S. military to withdraw from Japan.

Japan is also not necessarily as loyal as it appears to be. In recent years, Japan has been promoting amendments to the pacifist constitution on the grounds of "security policy" in order to clear the way for the lifting of the ban on collective self-defense, and the purpose has become more obvious recently.  On August 31 this year, the annual budget application of the Japanese Ministry of Defense reached 5.5947 trillion yen, refreshing the previous record. The report seeks funding to develop and mass-produce cruise missiles, high-speed ballistic missiles and hypersonic warheads with the excuse of China's use of military exercises to threaten to unilaterally change the status quo across the Taiwan Strait. Kyodo News said the move was aimed at containing China, which is rapidly expanding its armaments. The international community should be highly alert of Japan's attempt to break through restrictions to achieve "military normalization" by catering to the United States.

Essentially, the U.S.-Japan alliance does not have a common goal. Japan wants to fawn on the United States by suppressing China, extravagantly pleading the United States to "set free" in order to accomplish the so-called normalization of the country. The purpose of the United States to win over Japan, however, is to contain China and make profits from it, yet the United States will not let Japan take the lead. In fact, an alliance cobbled together to suppress and contain other countries, unequal from the beginning, and full of schemes and selfishness is doomed not to persist for long.
